birthday weekend 2009

(aside: it's sunday night, and I'm sitting on my bed with two dozing orange cats. they are actually still amazingly cute, even though they've left kitten-hood.)

I turned 25 on Friday. I went to work as usual, and met up with Solon, Jenn, & Aaron at El Rio for happy hour drinks. (Solon & Jenn had tickets to the symphony (Mahler 5) that night, so big party plans were put off a day.) Apparently Jenn got me a Google Wave invite for my birthday, but it has yet to arrive. Any moment now, I'm sure. We had hummus/pita & dolmas from Goood Frickin' Chicken along with our super cheap happy hour beers. When Solon & Jenn took off for Mahler, Aaron and I met up with the roommie and we headed to Weird Fish.

...and then I realized this blog entry was incredibly boring.

In summary, I had an excellent weekend with lots of friends. Solon and Jenn cooked dinner for me and Eric & Caitlin, and we had a blast at a modern-day speakeasy called Bourbon & Branch. (I must admit, though, that Ben has forever ruined me to bars. The drinks were good, but they were too complicated and were just trying too hard. I should have just ordered a manhattan and seen what they came up with, although it surely wouldn't be as good as what I'd get at Ben's house in Oberlin.)

Saturday afternoon I did some serious suburban shopping (Target, JoAnn's, Trader Joe's) and spent a ton of money. I did come out of it with some quality items (a vacuum, a comforter) that make my house nicer. (I also bought a chicken hat for the cats, but neither really likes to wear it. I think they find it demeaning.)

OH! And my mom sent me flowers at work and Gwen sent me flowers at home and both bouquets had lilies and hydrangeas, my favorite flowers, in them. And I was just in a fabulous mood all day on Friday, because it was my birthday and for no other reason. (Nothing really special happened at work -- we had a belated birthday pastries for my coworker's October 1st birthday that I didn't know about, and we'll be having cupcakes tomorrow for my birthday.)

The shows I'm currently into: The Daily Show, The Colbert Report, The Office, House, Gossip Girl, and Glee. At some point I'm going to have an OC Season 2 marathon, and will catch up on True Blood and Entourage. I'd also like to check out Nurse Jackie, too. WOO HOO TV!
